SVHS Nominees for Wayne County Teacher and Service Employee of the Year Announced

Spring Valley High School is excited to announce our nominees for Wayne County Teacher and Service Employee of the Year. This candidate were chosen based on the nominations of their peers.

SVHS Teacher of the Year - Tina Hazlett

SVHS Teacher of the Year – Tina Hazlett

Tina Hazlett has served the students of Spring Valley High School since its inception in 1998 as a member of the English Department currently teaching English 10, English 10 Honors, English 11, AP Language, and AP Literature. She was a 2007 Walmart Teacher of the Year and Yearbook advisor at SVHS where the school yearbooks were featured in the Galley of Excellence in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. She is respected among her peers, as seen in her nomination letters, and continues to be adored by her students for her compassion for them and her craft in the classroom.

SVHS Service Employee of the Year – Sherry Marcum 

Sherry Marcum serves as an Autism Mentor and has been with the Spring Valley family for 10 years. She assists students with day-to-day activities, monitors their behavior, and assists them in the greenhouse and community workplace sites with the goal of having steady employment following their education at SVHS. She is active in the Fort Gay, WV community as a member of the Fort Gay Area Women’s Club. She volunteers with disabled veterans, at the JJ Jordan Geriatric Center, and helps to distribute fruit baskets and hygiene products to the elderly in need.
