Dear 9th, 10th, and 11th graders:
Are you a problem solver? Do you imagine how things might be “if only….”? Have you always wondered what it takes to start your own business? If so, the West Virginia Governor’s School of Entrepreneurship (GSE) is the perfect opportunity for you! Presented by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Marshall University Lewis College of Business and Brad D. Smith Schools of Business, GSE educates and empowers West Virginia’s next generation of entrepreneurs.
During this free experience, you will develop your entrepreneurial mindset, meet experienced entrepreneurs, and learn state-of-the-art entrepreneurial principles. Over the course of the academy, you can, as part of a team, bring a real product or service to life and pitch it to a panel of investors for the chance to win prizes.
“Pivoting” – shifting to a new strategy – is a popular term in the startup world. This year, not only will we be teaching about pivoting and adaptability, but we will also be doing it ourselves! Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, we will be hosting GSE 2021 virtually to ensure the health and safety of our GSE students and faculty.
Our virtual experience will begin on Monday, June 14, 2021, and will culminate with Demo Day on Thursday, July 22, 2021. This year’s schedule is as follows:
- June 14, 15, 16
- June 21, 22, 23
- June 28, 29, 20
- July 12, 13, 14
- July 20, 21, 22
Applications to the GSE are available at www.govschools.wv.gov/gse. Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (304) 640-0988 if you have any questions about the logistics or application. Our partners at Marshall are also available to assist with questions regarding the experience and curriculum. Please feel free to contact Tricia Ball at email@example.com or (304) 696-5105.
Now, more than ever, young entrepreneurs are needed to help sustain and rebuild West Virginia’s economy. We would love for you to join us in reframing the future of our state and region!
