Spring Valley High School Scholastic Esports
The Spring Valley High School Esports program is a scholastic, education‑based competitive gaming program designed to give students a structured, team‑oriented experience similar to traditional athletics—while emphasizing academics, leadership, and career readiness.
What Is Scholastic Esports?
Scholastic esports is not casual gaming. It is an organized, school‑sponsored activity where students:
Compete as official school teams against other schools
Practice on a regular schedule with coaching and expectations
Maintain academic eligibility and positive behavior
Develop real‑world skills such as communication, strategy, teamwork, and time management
Like band, athletics, or robotics, esports provides students a place to belong while building skills that transfer directly to college, careers, and life.
Leagues & Competition
Spring Valley Esports participates in recognized scholastic esports leagues and competitive seasons that follow structured rules, eligibility requirements, and sportsmanship standards. Currently we participate in the national platform PlayVS and the West Virginia Scholastic Esports League. These leagues provide:
Regular season and playoff competition
Matches against other middle and high schools
Clear competitive formats and rule sets
Emphasis on fair play and student conduct
Competition titles rotate based on league offerings and student interest, allowing students to participate in both team‑based and individual competitive formats.
More Than Just Playing Games
Our esports program is intentionally designed to support:
Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathways
STEM skills such as problem‑solving, data analysis, and technology literacy
Soft skills including leadership, communication, and collaboration
Students are exposed to the many careers connected to esports and gaming, including:
Broadcasting and live production
Event management
Marketing and branding
Game design and development
IT, networking, and hardware support
Expectations & Eligibility
Participation in Spring Valley Esports requires students to:
Meet academic eligibility requirements
Follow school and league codes of conduct
Attend practices and competitions consistently
Represent Spring Valley High School with professionalism and sportsmanship
Inclusive & Student‑Focused
Esports provides an opportunity for students who may not participate in traditional athletics (though many do) to represent their school competitively, build confidence, and connect with peers who share similar interests.
At Spring Valley High School, esports is about:
Belonging
Growth
Competition with purpose
We are proud to compete as Timberwolves—on the digital field as well as in the classroom.
